What Was My First Week Like As A Ride-Share Driver?

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to work for myself and I love talking with people. My regular job doesn’t really fill those gaps for me. I work in a cubicle and rarely get to meet new folks. My commute is about an hour each way, so I am in the car a lot. I researched, and driving for a ride-share company became more appealing. I took a look at the several companies, and ultimately decided to try driving for a ride-share company. I soon realized that earning extra cash is nice, but the real payoff for me is getting to meet new individuals and hear their stories. So, what was my first week like?

My First Night – Just Trying It Out

After clearing my background check and providing all my other paperwork, I was finally approved to start driving. So that first night, I turned on the app while watching television with my wife. Within about 15 minutes, I heard a “ding” in my phone and I had my first ride request. My adrenaline was pumping, this was awesome. I have to admit, I was a little nervous about the first pickup, but I picked her up, and dropped her off about 10 minutes later. Money in the pocket, and a great sense of finally working for myself.

My Second Day I Made $90

I didn’t do anything crazy like skip work and drive, but I did drive on my commute and was able to pick up a passenger and drive them down into the city. I used a feature called Destination Mode which allows the driver to specify a route, and the app only provides rides within 5 minutes of the planned drive. So effectively, I found a way to get paid on my morning commute! Somehow, it doesn’t bother me any longer to drive in the morning traffic.

I Love Talking To People

Really, I just love people in general, but getting to meet new people and talking about their lives is fascinating to me. I could also see this working for someone who struggles in this area, if for nothing else than to overcome the fear of meeting new people. I’ve found the most interesting stories late at night with folks that may have kicked back a few. I value confidentiality, so I won’t disclose some of the juicier facts, but I can tell you that I have heard some pretty awesome stories and gotten more than a few laughs. To me this is the real value for my life and wellbeing. Sure, money is awesome, but the stories are priceless. Visit rideshareapps.com
